This weekend was Blizzcon, where Warlords of Draenor was announced. Rekrsiv had purchased a virtual ticket so we could follow the excitement, and we were not disappointed. It felt like forever while the devs spoke or Hearthstone and Starcraft and all sorts of things I don’t really care about. I’m a one game only kinda person, so I was impatiently awaiting news on the Warcraft front. It was a slow build up to the big announcement, but it was well worth it. I was so excited to see the trailer, and it just looked so damn good! The new character models are really amazing, and I can’t wait to see more of them. I see lots of character customizations and race changes in my future.
Blizzcon is now over and there were a lot of info that was shoved our way, and frankly I will need a couple of days, or weeks even, to process it all. In the meantime, I can’t wait to explore Draenor and roll new characters. I’m very tempted to start a draenei and an orc before the expansion hits, but I also need to figure out how I’ll use my one boost-to-90 pass. Decisions, decisions.
The fact that we are getting no new race or class does not bother me at all. In fact I was expecting that would be the case. I think the characters remodel is enough work as it is, and I prefer the devs working on fun content (like dungeons, especially. There were only a couple announced yet, but I’m still hoping we’ll get more in subsequent patches throughout the expansion) rather than creating a new race from scratch or balancing a new class when we already have eleven to pick from. I don’t hope we never get new races or classes, I’m just saying it’s no big deal not to get one right now. I was kinda hoping they would talk more about professions, but the expansion is still in development, so fingers crossed.
One of the very cool things that was announced was that heirlooms now won’t be lying around in our bags like they have been for years, but instead displayed in a window like mounts and pets. And that is any altoholic’s dream come true. No more paying for server change to get heirlooms on a different server, and then realizing you forgot one on an obscur alt you haven’t played in months. You can now get on a new realm, create a character and just get going. The possibilities here are endless, and now I won’t have any excuse not to roll a gazillion alts on many different servers. Money isn’t even an issue anymore. This may be a good or a bad thing. Working on multiple toons is no small task, and may completely rid me of any spare time I had. Of course no one expects me to be able to put as much time and effort into every single one of my characters, but I worry that (by my own fault) I will totally lose focus and be all over the place instead of focusing on the important things.
A good example of this is the Legendary cloak. In Mists of Pandaria, I only started working on my hunter’s legendary cloak after my son was born, two months ago, which was almost a year after the expansion was released. The upcoming Garrison feature seems like a big commitment, more so than the Tillers Farm ever was, in the sense that upgrading and managing the garrison will require some work and a lot of time, and I most likely won’t be able to keep up with it if I try to manage six or seven (or ten or twenty) of them at a time. I’ve given up on using all my alt’s tillers farms a long time ago due to a lack of time, and probably by laziness too. Hopefully, I’ve learned from my mistakes.
Mists of Pandaria gave us a lot to do in terms of things to farm, reputations to work on and items to collect, and it looks like Warlords of Draenor won’t be much different, which is a good thing, all things considered. Being too busy is probably better than sitting on your thumbs because you ran out of fun content to explore and conquer. I’m nowhere near done with Mists of Pandaria as it is, but I’m really looking forward to learning more about this new expansion, and hope we get a beta soon!
